Adolescent Services

I believe that parent involvement is an integral part of adolescent treatment. Therefore, I prefer for a parent to be involved with part or all of the initial session. We will discuss your concerns and I will assess your adolescent’s mental health and provide a treatment plan for your child. While it is important for parents to be involved and informed of a plan for treatment, adolescents tend to open up more if they feel that their sessions are private and details are confidential. We will discuss confidentiality issues during the first session. The second session is usually with the adolescent alone. Part of the third session will be reserved for parent involvement. It is generally helpful for parents to be aware of how best to help their adolescents make the most of their therapy experience. This includes awareness of skills, how best to support their adolescents use of skills and if necessary, exploring family dynamics. If it is difficult for you to be present, I offer brief phone sessions to facilitate parent involvement as well.  Coordinated adolescent group skills training is offered at our location.
